A violent tornado tore through Henry County, Georgia, just after 3:30 PM on Wednesday, May 29, 2025, leaving a trail of destruction along Interstate 75 and surrounding communities. Witnesses described the scene as something out of a disaster movie, with overturned vehicles, splintered homes, and downed trees scattered across the area.

The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado as an EF2, with estimated wind speeds between 111 and 135 mph. It carved a nearly 2-mile path from northwest of Locust Grove to south of McDonough, directly impacting one of Georgia’s busiest highway corridors.
One of the most heart-wrenching stories to emerge involved actor Tray Chaney, best known for his role on HBO’s The Wire. Chaney’s home was destroyed in the storm, and his 18-year-old son, Malachi, was critically injured after being thrown nearly 300 feet from his bedroom. Chaney took to social media in tears, sharing the terrifying moment and reminding viewers to hold their loved ones close.
This tornado was part of a broader outbreak that battered northern Georgia earlier in the week. Six tornadoes have now been confirmed, with widespread damage including flattened homes, power outages, and impassable roads.
Emergency responders, utility crews, and community volunteers have been working around the clock to assist residents, restore power, and begin cleanup efforts. Local shelters are open to families displaced by the storm.
Authorities urge continued caution as recovery continues and more storms loom in the forecast.
