🎥 Movie Review: Last Prisoner (2025)

Rating: 8/10
🕰️ Runtime: 1h 49min
🎭 Genre: Action | Thriller | Drama
🎬 Director: David Leitch
🎟️ Starring: Jason Statham, Vera Farmiga, Lance Reddick (posthumous), and Boyd Holbrook

🔥 The Verdict:

Last Prisoner is Jason Statham in prime form—a raw, unapologetically brutal action thriller that knows exactly what it is and leans hard into it. It’s not here to reinvent the genre—it’s here to perfect it.

🥊 What Works:

Statham’s Performance
Jack Brody might be one of Statham’s most grounded roles to date. He brings a heavy mix of worn-down grit and repressed rage, making you feel the years he spent buried by the system.

Brutal Action
The prison fights are claustrophobic, visceral, and often shockingly realistic. A standout one-shot corridor brawl halfway through the film rivals Oldboy in intensity.

The Story Has Weight
Unlike typical shoot-em-ups, this one gives Brody a real arc. It’s not just about revenge—it’s about reckoning, redemption, and reclaiming humanity from a world that treats people as disposable assets.

Supporting Cast
Vera Farmiga as the morally conflicted handler adds depth. Lance Reddick’s final performance (in flashbacks and voiceovers) is haunting and dignified.

🤔 What Doesn’t:

Predictable Plot Beats
You’ll probably see some of the twists coming—especially if you’ve seen The Bourne Legacy or Extraction. It follows the familiar “one last job” arc a little too faithfully.

Underused Villain
Boyd Holbrook’s antagonist has the menace, but not enough screen time. He feels more like a bureaucratic obstacle than a true nemesis.

🎞️ Standout Scene:

A silent escape through a waterlogged service tunnel as Brody breathes through a cracked pipe, wounded and hunted, with only the red glow of an emergency beacon lighting the way. Pure tension.

🧠 Bottom Line:

If you’re in the mood for no-nonsense, boots-on-the-ground action with a conscience, Last Prisoner delivers. It’s a gritty, satisfying ride powered by Statham’s bruised-knuckle charm and a well-paced, emotionally charged script.
