A senior European Union official has indicated that the bloc is prepared to significantly ramp up its military support to Ukraine if diplomatic efforts led by former U.S. President Donald Trump fail to sway Russia toward peace.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the EU is closely monitoring Trump’s ongoing attempts to mediate an end to the conflict. However, if Moscow remains unresponsive, the EU is ready to take decisive action.
“If President Trump is unable to persuade the Kremlin to pursue a peaceful resolution, we are prepared to dramatically increase our military assistance to Ukraine,” the official stated. “Europe cannot afford to let this aggression continue unchecked.”
The statement underscores growing impatience among European leaders as the war in Ukraine grinds on, with hopes for a negotiated settlement increasingly uncertain. EU defense ministers are expected to meet in the coming weeks to discuss potential escalations in support, including advanced weapons systems and expanded training programs.
